Centre of Attention

Jayne was seventeen-years-old and did anything to be the centre of attention. She was the class fool at school, she got her bits out for the boys and she bullied the less pretty girls.

She was determined to be famous and every night she prayed to God to make this happen.

One day her prayer was answered and she became famous across the world.

It was Sunday morning; Jayne skipped church and went shopping with girlfriends for clothes. Her parents were going away and she was having a party.

Another girl, Teresa, was also in town. She too was seventeen but she had no party to go to. She was friendless, homeless, and hungry and had been forced to sell herself. In utter despair, she went to the top of the carpark with only one thought. She didn’t pray to God; she had given up on Him long ago.

Nobody saw her climb the safety fence. She stood arms outstretched, as she used to love doing at the swimming pool in happier days. She didn’t look down, if she had she might have hesitated.

Nor did she hear the girls giggling about the revealing tops they had bought and the boys they would have at the party.

Teresa launched herself through the air and plunged towards the ground.

She landed on Jayne and this broke her fall, saving her life. Jayne’s spine broke and she lived the rest of her life in care.

Moral: Be careful what you pray for.
