I’ve spent weeks reading ‘true’ stories about the supernatural for a book I’m writing. So many people claim they’ve seen ghosts or the grim reaper, but it’s a load of cobblers and that’s what my book will prove.
Aften ten hours solid reading I went to meet my friend at the Hairy Hamster. I got a table and scrolled through yet another Facebook site of close encounters.
It took a while before I noticed the young man sitting next to me. The pub wasn’t busy and I was a bit miffed that he hadn’t sat somewhere else. But he was a smashing-looking lad, with sparking blue eyes, an apple-cheek complexion and long fair hair.
He didn’t speak but nodded at my phone. ‘Ghosts,’ I said and he smiled encouragingly, so I continued. ‘Why is it,’ I sniggered, ‘that so many people have seen ghosts and I never have?’
Only then I noticed his tie-dyed shirt and the pale-blue embroidered jeans. He was straight out of the sixties. ‘I haven’t seen you here before,’ I said, blushing because I was chatting him up.
‘I’ve been coming for years,’ he replied, ‘You just haven’t noticed me before.’
At that moment my friend appeared. ‘Who’s that you’re talking to on the phone?’
‘No,’ I began to say, ‘I’m talking to …’ But the young man had disappeared.
‘Oh BOG OFF!’ I yelled and heads turned to see what the row was. ‘I’m not having that! Nobody would believe a story like this …’
