The Frog Prince

A modern fairytale

Once upon a time in a big, noisy city, there lived a lonely little girl named Lily. She had nobody to play with and the only friends she had were the ducks in the park.

One day, while she was feeding them at the pond, her bracelet slipped off her wrist and sank into the water.

‘Oh no!’ cried Lily.

Just then, a little green frog popped out of the water. ‘Hello!’ said the frog. ‘I can get your bracelet back – but only if you promise to be my friend.’

Lily was surprised, here was somebody just as lonely as her. She agreed and the frog dove in and came back with her bracelet.

‘Thanks, Frog!’ she said, delighted that at last she had a friend.

That evening, the frog showed up at Lily’s house! He sat at the dinner table, played games, and even listened to bedtime stories. At first, Lily thought it was silly – how could a frog be her friend? – but the frog made her laugh, and she liked having him around.

One night, before going to sleep, she gave the frog a quick kiss on the head. Suddenly, whoosh! The frog turned into a boy!

‘I was a prince under a magic spell,’ he explained. ‘Only a true friend’s kindness could break it.’

Lily was amazed! She and the prince stayed great friends. They played in the park every day after that.

That was until 20 years later when her doctor finally signed Lily into re-hab.
